Higher Education Proposal
Education is a right.
Higher education is a public good and essential for developing the workforce that Oregon needs.
Everyone should have access to quality, affordable higher education regardless of race, class, gender, socio-economic status, immigration status, sexual orientation, veteran status, or disability status.
Higher education institutions should have shared governance that includes student voice, public accountability, and community stakeholders.
Earning a higher education degree should not put someone into lifelong debt.
Community colleges should be free of charge to all low-income students, including the cost of all required materials.
Any changes to student fees should go through a public process.
Human subjects research is critical in a democracy but must be done in an ethical and transparent way.
Campuses should be safe spaces for all people.
Academic freedom is important in protecting faculty and students.
